The decision to consult a psychotherapist is a big step. If you are overwhelmed with a stressful life event and have tried every conceivable option to solve the problem on your own, then it’s time to consider turning to a professional. If you are already considering contacting a therapist, you still may be hesitant because of a common misunderstanding that therapy requires a long term commitment. Depending on your particular needs, short-term therapy may actually may be more effective.
The next step is selecting a therapist. When making a decision your main concern should be choosing the person with whom you can develop a trusting relationship. For many people, revealing the most personal aspects of their lives to a complete stranger is by no means easy. An understanding of my approach, personality, and philosophy of therapy hopefully will make your choice easier.
My model for what therapy should be is this; a place dedicated to respect and dignity in which you can feel what you truly feel and become who you truly are. In a safe and secure environment, I help clients become the best they can be by connecting with the healthy, vibrant part of themselves. Combining warmth, caring, and skill, I prompt clients to become active participants in the healing process. During the first few visits, we will collaborate to identify the problem and possible solutions that you seek. Through therapy, we will explore and unearth the root causes of problems. You will be helped to understand how these problems have been holding you back from enjoying a more fulfilling and meaningful life. You will be assisted to gain the inner strength to put into action workable solutions to what once appeared to be insurmountable problems.
I look forward to helping you achieve your goals.
